when one (man) plus one (woman) does not equal three (in a family). The grapefruit chronicles is a blog about the ins and outs of life when trying to conceive is harder than you thought.

Infertility resources

Infertility resources

I wanted to share some of my absolute favorite infertility resources. These books, podcasts, etc. got me through some rough patches. They were the gems you find digging around on the internet - or that great friends recommend to you!

To anyone not experiencing infertility but curious what it’s all like, #4 is spot on and really just plain funny if you’d prefer a book, in #6 I have a link to a great video that explains the ins and outs from someone who has gone through it.

In chronological order of how they came to me

  1. Taking Charge of Your Fertility, by Toni Weschler. A friend recommended this to me when we started trying. This is the very thick book I reference in my “We’re trying” post. It was actually part of the reason we sought treatment when we did - the other part being my gynecologist’s recommendation.

  2. The Fertility Warriors Podcast, by Robyn Birkin. I mentioned Robyn in one of my first posts. She and this podcast saved me from a lot of tears, completely turned around my outlook on the whole infertility experience, and gave us some things we could actually DO to help make it all suck less. Also, she has the most wonderful Australian accent. The day I found this I listened to 10 episodes immediately, and even had my husband listen to a few with me. My favorite episodes are:

    • How to cope when everyone around you is falling pregnant

    • How to survive the Two Week Wait

    • When all the changes you need to make to fall pregnant feel overwhelming

  3. It Starts with the Egg, by Rebecca Fett. This book spurred the Great BPA Purge of 2018… and other ridiculous things I did to help improve the quality of my eggs. It may not all work, but for any Type A infertility folks it sure does give you a place to channel your energy.

  4. Infreakinfertility, by Melanie Dale. I was giggling like a fool the first time I read this. It is hilarious and so so accurate. Also, its great if you’re not going through infertility and want to learn about it from a book that doesn’t put you to sleep.

  5. IVFML, a podcast by Huffington Post writer Anna Almendrala and her husband Simon Ganz. This one was recommended by a friend and is definitely worth listening to, infertile or not. Unlike Fertility warriors, it’s not so much about tips & tricks - at least not the first season. The first season brings you the story of Anna and Simon, and then in the second season stories from other people who have had a range of outcomes and experiences on their fertility journeys.

  6. Holly Homebody’s YouTube playlist on her IVF story. In particular THIS post that details her entire IVF process. I watched this video after we decided that we were going all in for IVF and it helped me understand what we were really getting ourselves into. If you’re curious what it’s actually like, watch this video! It’s about 30 mins.

Enjoy! :)
