when one (man) plus one (woman) does not equal three (in a family). The grapefruit chronicles is a blog about the ins and outs of life when trying to conceive is harder than you thought.

Welcome!

Welcome!

Hi! I’m Lauren. It’s nice to meet you!

The grapefruit chronicles is a product of two things: an itch to write a blog for as long as I can remember, and some recent twists and turns in my life that have left me with lots on my mind.

My husband and I have been trying to conceive for a year and a half (since October 2017). I’ll be writing here about our experiences - past and present - on our (in)fertility journey. Real time we are in the thick of treatments, but I will be posting things on a bit of a delay or being vague about the timelines because, well, who knows how this will go! In our past treatments I’ve learned that I need to feel the feels on this roller coaster alone or with a few people before I am ready to share.

What’s with the name?

When we first started trying, we wanted to have a code name for our endeavor so we could talk and text about it in plain sight but not invite too many questions. We called it ‘grapefruit’. Then, when I outed my fertility struggles to a close friend who’d just recently announced her own pregnancy, she said: “I know it sounds weird, but you should eat a lot of grapefruit - it worked for me!” So in a strange way this pink fruit became synonymous with our (in)fertility journey… and is also one of my favorite foods.
